About Me
Life is Grand
My name is Randi Jaffe. I went to Putnam Elementary, Morehead Middle School and Coronado High School in the El Paso Independent School District. I then graduated from the University of Texas in Austin and got a BS degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. I received a Masters Degree in Computers in Education from Lesley College. I have been teaching special education for 29 years. I am currently working in the Resource Room at Douglass Elementary. I am honored to be working at a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School.
Educational Philosophy
My philosophy of education is based on Marc Gold’s theory of “Try another way.” I
refuse to give up! As I learn more about my students and their disabilities, modifications are continually made to meet individual needs. There is no one “right way”. I continually strive to be creative and innovative to improve instruction. I work to instill an understanding that learning is a life long quest which is necessary in meeting individual needs toward independence in a continually changing world. Educating and working with parents on behalf of their child is an essential priority. Family involvement is a crucial component to ensure success. My commitment to improving education makes me realize that like the students, I must assimilate new information daily. My knowledge base is continually expanding through staff development, workshops, professional reading and professional affiliations, ensuring that I possess the skills necessary to make a significant impact on the community. As long as I am alive, well and have the capacity to change the direction of education, my objective is to make a positive impact on the lives of the students whose lives I touch.

Rules and Consequences
Ms. Jaffe’s Homework Policy
There will not be any regular homework sent from the Resource Room. Homework from regular class sections will be required by the homeroom teacher each day. Homework will allow your child to acquire skills, develop good study habits and take responsibility for his/her own learning.
Please write the regular classroom teacher a note in the school agenda when your child is unable to complete homework due to a family emergency or because your child is unable to complete assignments. Homework modifications may be given to Resource children to enable them to be successful and build skills toward independence.
Parents are expected to monitor homework. Students should complete homework to the best of their ability. You may assist your child but should not complete work for him/her. Struggle is part of learning,
If your child demonstrates weakness in skill areas such as handwriting or spelling, individualized homework may be assigned by Ms. Jaffe to provide additional assistance.
Reading to or with your child every night will help your child to develop better vocabulary and comprehension. Practicing math facts with your child is an excellent way to build math foundations and strengthen computation skills. You can assist your child with academics by going to my website at www.kishks.weebly.com/ to reinforce skills taught in class. Be sure that your child is working on skills that correspond with his/her grade level and ability.
